Safety First! Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada Employees in Thunder Bay Celebrate Major Milestone

Thunder Bay Safety Celebration

Landmark four years without a lost time injury

(THUNDER BAY, April 28, 2016) – Today, on United Nations World Day for Safety and Health at Work, Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada’s employees in Thunder Bay celebrated four years of continuous operations without a lost time injury (LTI). A key worker health and safety indicator, LTI is a measure of injury sustained on the job that is capable of preventing a worker from performing or continuing with a task, resulting in downtime in the operation.

“The health and safety of our employees is our number one priority,” said Mike Clark, Vice President of Customer Operations at Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada. “Reaching the four year milestone highlights not only Coca-Cola’s commitment to a safe workplace, but the dedication and engagement of everyone at our Thunder Bay facility.”

Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada operates a distribution warehouse, as well as a sales and merchandising centre from the Thunder Bay facility. Coca-Colahas had a presence in Thunder Bay since 1909 and currently employs 22 people.

“Excellent health and safety records don’t happen by accident. It takes hard work and engagement from everyone at the facility,” said the Honourable Bill Mauro, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry and MPP for Thunder Bay-Atikokan. “Congratulations to everyone at Coca-Cola in Thunder Bay for this significant achievement and your commitment to a safe workplace.”

Thunder Bay Mayor, Keith Hobbs remarked,“Congratulations to everyone at Coca-Cola Canada in Thunder Bay.  This is a lesson of excellence in safety and what can be achieved by a strong safety culture.  It is an example for all workplaces in the City of Thunder Bay.”

Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada has a stringent safety policy that empowers employees to be safety leaders. Company policies follow international best practices, and safety audits take place monthly in every Coca-Cola facility across Coca-Cola. The Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada LTI rate has improved over 47% since 2011.
