After eleven days of spectacular competition, the Special Olympics 2017 World Winter Games ended last weekend with a closing ceremony that was nothing short of magical. Over 15,000 athletes, fans and family members filled the Liebenau stadium for the final celebration. Channeling the upbeat energy of the opening ceremony, the finale event featured several captivating acts including a performance of the Coca-Cola Unified Song, “Can You Feel It,” by artist Rose May Alba. This incredible night concluded with the handing over of the Special Olympics flag to the hosts of the Special Olympics 2019 World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi.
Our very own Team Canada had a strong finish this year with a total medal count of 117 – 47 gold, 43 silver and 27 bronze. Speed Skater Stephen Graham – who recently spoke to Coca-Cola associates when he visited our King Street office back in February – was among the athletes bringing home a medal from Austria after he finished third in the 1500 m speed skating race. Congratulation Stephen and to the rest of our Canadian athletes!
