By now you may have heard the news that we relaunched Diet Coke. Don’t worry -- no, we’re not changing the crisp, iconic Diet Coke taste that millions of people have loved since 1982. But we did announce a full brand restage for Diet Coke in North America, including a sleek new look, modern design, new campaign and the debut of four bold, new flavours: Diet Coke Feisty Cherry, Diet Coke Twisted Mango, Diet Coke Zesty Blood Orange and Diet Coke Ginger Lime.

1.       What’s happening to Diet Coke?

First, don’t worry – the Diet Coke known and loved by millions since 1982 is not going anywhere. It’s here to stay. In 2018, we’re relaunching the no-calorie beverage brand Canadians know and love with a full brand restage, including a sleek new look, modern design, new campaign and the debut of four bold, new flavours. We’re maintaining the essence of Diet Coke while modernizing the brand to invite a new generation of drinkers to try it.

Following a two-year innovation process fueled by consumer research, we’re introducing a new modern design in sleek 310 mL cans, launching a new marketing campaign and adding more variety to the Diet Coke portfolio with the launch of four bold, new flavours: Diet Coke Feisty Cherry, Diet Coke Twisted Mango, Diet Coke Zesty Blood Orange and Diet Coke Ginger Lime. Each new beverage tastes great and has a bold and unexpected-yet-delicious flavour that complements the unique, crisp taste of Diet Coke. The new look, packaging and flavours will hit store shelves in Canada in early February.

2.       Is the Diet Coke recipe changing?

No. Millions of loyal fans love the unique, great taste of Diet Coke, and great taste just doesn’t change. It’s here to stay. We’re simply adding four bold, delicious new flavours to give new drinkers – and current fans – more variety and unexpected taste experiences.

3.       Why are you launching skinny cans for Diet Coke?

Skinny cans are already available in Canada! The sleek can packaging is one aspect of a completely new Diet Coke visual identity. Sleek cans offer a more premium drinking experience for our fans, and they visually represent an evolution of the brand’s personality, standing taller and more assertive. (It also is important to note that standard 355 mL Diet Coke cans will continue to be available in 12-packs.)

4.       What does the new Diet Coke packaging look like?

The refreshed Diet Coke portfolio has a new modern look in sleek can packaging. Anchored by the brand’s iconic silver colour, the new look-and-feel has a simplified colour palette focused on silver and red with accents of bold colour to represent the new flavours. A slightly refined typography simultaneously preserves Diet Coke’s heritage, yet presents it in a more progressive manner. The new look also features a vertical red band that flows through Diet Coke packaging and into all communications, from outdoor advertising to social media. This visual evolution elevates the brand to more contemporary space, while still using at its foundation the recognizable core brand visual assets.

5.       Why is Diet Coke launching new flavours?

Millennials are now thirstier than ever for adventures and new experiences, and we want to be right by their sides. Through extensive consumer research, we learned that younger consumers have an affinity for bold, yet refreshing and great-tasting, flavours in their favourite foods and beverages — from hoppy craft beers to spicy sauces. So, we’re contemporizing and adding more variety to the Diet Coke portfolio by introducing bolder tastes.

The four bold new flavours are Diet Coke Feisty Cherry, Diet Coke Twisted Mango, Diet Coke Zesty Blood Orange and Diet Coke Ginger Lime. Each new beverage tastes great and has a bold and unexpected-yet-delicious flavour that complements the unique, crisp taste of Diet Coke. The new flavours will hit store shelves across Canada starting in early February.

6.       I really love my Diet Coke with Lime!  Will it be replaced with Ginger Lime? Should I be stocking up before it disappears?

Nope.  We know there are a lot of people just like you who love Diet Coke with Lime so we aren’t touching it. But we do think you should at least give Diet Coke Ginger Lime (and all of the new flavours) a try. They’re absolutely delicious and who knows, you may find a new fave!

7.       Will the new Diet Coke flavours be available across fountain machines and Coca-Cola Freestyle?

Unfortunately not yet – but we’re working on it!

8.       What’s the sweetener blend for the new flavours?

Just like Diet Coke, the bold new Diet Coke flavours are sweetened with aspartame and acesulfame potassium (ace-K), and all contain zero calories and zero sugar.

9.       What’s the difference between Diet Coke and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

Diet Coke and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar are both delicious, no-calorie sparkling choices, each made with their own unique blend of flavours and sugar substitutes. For people looking for an option that tastes like Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is a great choice. Diet Coke and its expanded flavour portfolio provide a crisper taste and bolder flavours.

10.   Is Diet Coke relaunching in other countries?

The refreshed Diet Coke design, new packaging and new flavours is also launching in the United States. Other markets around the world are exploring future plans for the brand, or have already adopted “One Brand” packaging for Diet Coke within the Coca-Cola trademark.
